What is the best way to remove old acne scars?

There is a relatively new treatment for acne called Levulan. It is a 20% ALA acid that is rub on your face and let sit for a few hours. Then you go under this Blu-U light for 10 minutes. It causes a reaction and your top layer of skin peels away in the first 48 hours and continues for like 4 days. Your skin becomes weird color and weird looking. In about 5 days your skin returns normal and your skin will be smoother and acne free....some people who have done this treatment claimed it has made their scars seem much less noticable.|||As far as I know there aren%26#039;t many options. There%26#039;s a laser surgery procedure that actually literally burns the skin off your face and allows it to regrow new tissue....sounds pretty painful though :p|||Well the first thing to ask is...

Is what you have truly an acne scar or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation?

If it%26#039;s the hyper-pigmentation and over the counter products and time will do the trick for speeding up the fading process.

If what you truly have is a scar (same spot for over a year now) then perhaps a chemical peel from a dermatologist will do the trick. Chemical peels can be very expensive and the number of treatments depends on the severity of the scar.

Recap:

If your %26quot;scar%26quot; has only existed for less than a year, it may just be post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (look up the term on webmd.com) then use any over the counter topical cream (neutrogena has a few products on the market...
